ABOVE AND BELOW THE TIDE

‘Above and Below the Tide’ was formed in Sligo in 2014 to play some original compositions on an album of the same name. The group played some well received gigs promoting the album and developing a unique sound blending many influences including folk, trad, classical, world music and rock. All the members bring years of experience of playing in a wide range of bands and disciplines but in ‘Above and Below the Tide’ are attempting to create a new sound through their own compositions.      

Planxty, Bothy Band, Horslips, Ennio Morricone, Arvo Part, Penguin Café Orchestra, Black Sabbath and Slayer to name a few,would all be influences on the band. Dave McLoughlin plays bouzouki, vocals and guitar. Anna Houston of ‘No crows’ is on cello and mandolin displaying her virtuosity in a variety of styles. Collette Sheerin plays flute and vocals has several solo albums under her belt and has her own band ‘The Candles’. Bernard Tohill plays guitar and also played in several bands including ‘The Blowings’. Ray Coen plays fiddle and electric guitar and is also a member of ‘No Crows’. He has released much of his own material and has written several compositions for the band.                                                                                                         

 ‘Above and Below the Tide’ has received airplay on RTE 1, Lyric FM and several other radio stations.                                                                                                                                                 

 The band recorded their new album ‘Deeper Blue’ in spring 2018 and released in July 2018 followed by gigs around the country. The album ‘Deeper Blue’ showcases material played live by the band over the past few years. Tracks on the album cover issues such as emigration, metal health, death and historical events. ‘Deeper Blue’ is available from CDBaby, iTunes etc.
